SEATS AND ORDERING CODES From time to time, customers order a seat only. This would be attached at the front and rear using adjustable brackets mounted onto the wheelchair frame and removed by releasing the retaining knobs and sliding off the forks. More often, the seat is fixed to the backrest with a bracket. This means it usually only needs mounting to the wheelchair frame at the front, using the adjustable brackets and detachment forks described above. SEAT CHOICES.(a) A basic seat is approximately 1.5" thick and flat. It is built from a solid plywood base, foam filled and covered. It is water resistant and wipe clean. The foam liner can be encased in a blue coating if required, which acts as an incontinence liner whilst retaining the breathing properties of the seat. All seats have a zip cover.
(b) Seats can have cut outs in their sides to allow lateral adjustment of side supports etc or accommodate special needs or growth requirements.
(c) To accommodate fixed deformities or obliquitys, the foam inside the seat can be formed in 2" cubes (starting at the front edge) which enable portions to be cut away or replaced with fluid/gel packs etc.
(d) To increase comfort and resist pelvic tilt or thrust, the seat can be made higher at the front.
(e) To accommodate an uneven leg length, it may be necessary to cutback the length of one side of the seat.
(f) Scott seats can be contoured to build in leg troughs and create a built in abductor/pommel/medial thigh support. This is also ramped/anti-thrust.
IMPORTANT ORDERING CONSIDERATIONS The prescriber form allows detailed specification requests so that each seat is built to suit your clients personal needs. It is important to realise that surface area of the seat will be lost to the depth/thickness of back or side supports which you add to it. THIS MUST BE ALLOWED FOR WHEN ORDERING. All Scott seats have the rear corners cut away 1.5" x 2.5" to accommodate backrest posts. The Scott seat and Scott backrest (if used together) will be connected using a fixed or hinged bracket. This can be requested flush or inset. Inset brackets allow the backrest to reach even further onto the seat and create growing depth for the future. |
